On Tuesday 25th October guests joined local organisations at York House to celebrate Black History Month in the Borough of Richmond. It was an evening of reflection on the topic of mental health in the Black community.

We were among the 15 local organizations holding a stall this past Tuesday at York House, at a local event in celebration of Black History Month. Alongside refreshments and entertainment, the evening was an occasion for reflection on the topic of mental health in the Black community. Talks included lived experience of mental health struggles in the Black community, and a history of racist and racialized mental health treatment and how this affected and affects Black communities to this day.

There were around 100 attendees, and they were able to speak to organisations including Age UK, NHS SWL, Spectra, Mulberry Centre, SWL Energy Advice, Thinking Works, Ramblers Walks, Dose of Nature, RB Mind, Richmond Wellbeing Service, Smoking Cessation, and Adult Dyslexics United. BookLove was also there, a traveling bookshop selling books by authors from ethnic minority backgrounds, and guests were able to browse and purchase books.
