Healthwatch Richmond Shortlisted for Prestigious National Award

Healthwatch Richmond has been nominated for a prestigious national award for COVID-19 Response which has helped seldom heard groups access care and have a voice during the pandemic, across Richmond.

Healthwatch Richmond was shortlisted under the COVID-19 response category in the Healthwatch Awards 2021, which are run by Healthwatch England.

This annual event celebrates the difference Healthwatch’s 4,000 plus staff and volunteers across England have made over the past year. Healthwatch Richmond is one of only 30 local Healthwatch out of a total of 152 across England to be in the running for one of the awards.

We will find out whether its award bid has been successful during Healthwatch Week, which runs from Tuesday 9 November 2021.

We aimed to respond to the emerging needs for information and support, particularly for seldom heard groups and providing voluntary support to our community, during the pandemic. By processing 225 DBS Checks, we enabled 450 more vulnerable members of our community per week to receive support. We also ran three vaccination events which enabled 450 people to get answers to their questions, and engaged 2,438 people through 26 outreach sessions.

In addition, in response to the pandemic we have also been carrying out DBS checks for local community groups, keeping residents informed of any restrictions and changes through communications and social media, and running several engagement events, most recently an event celebrating Black History Month in Richmond.
