The Carers’ Charter is LIVE!

The Richmond Adult and Young Unpaid Carers' Charter sets out in carers own words their priorities for all local organisations to work towards. We worked with Richmond Health and Wellbeing Board, Richmond Carers Centre and the Council to help create the charter for a more inclusive, carer friendly Richmond-upon-Thames .

About the Charter

In July 2025, we published a report that drove the recommandations for the Carers' Charter. Over 250 unpaid carers responded to our survey asking what would make a difference in their caring role. This report attempted to analyse the stories told in this survey and to present the experiences of unpaid carers living in Richmond upon Thames in their own words. You can read this report here

This year, the Richmond Adult and Young Unpaid Carers' Charter was officially published. You can read about it here.

Our pledges

Healthwatch Richmond has formalised five pledges our support to the Carer's Charter.

  • In all our research work, we will ask professionals how they ensure carers are recognised and supported. We will also make recommendations to gain evidence that professionals are recognising and supporting carers.
  • We will use our social media and newsletter platforms to share stories and messages about the reality of being a carer in Richmond upon Thames. We will also promote Carer’s Week and include an update on our pledges in every Annual Report.
  • We will collect the viewpoints and experiences of carers in all our research work to inform shaping the services that carers and their loved ones access.
  • We will continue to provide signposting services to carers over the phone, via email and in-person to ensure they get the right information and support.
  • We will collect feedback from young carers about their experiences of local services as part of our project work with a particular focus on CAMHS. We will share these insights with service leads and other professionals to help them adapt their care and support.
