Enter & View Report: Roy Kinnear House

As part of a series of Enter & View visits to assess local care, we have published our report on Roy Kinnear House.

What we did

Roy Kinnear House was selected for review because concerns were raised at a Quality Information Sharing Group meeting on the 5th June 2014. Concerns raised were about a safeguarding incident that occurred in December 2013. Moreover, Choice Support had recently taken over the care home management.

The report is based on a visit carried out on the 10th of August 2015 by two volunteers and one member of staff from Healthwatch Richmond. For each Enter & View visit, Healthwatch Richmond uses its statutory powers to visit wards, talk to patients, relatives and staff, and request information, so it can make recommendations for improvement.

Summary

Following our visit Roy Kinnear House, management made some changes:

  • changed the rota to ensure sufficient staff was present at all times
  • the local hydrotherapy pool was made easily accessible
  • relationships between staff, residents and relatives were monitored to ensure positive communication. This included setting up a relatives meeting.
