Enter & View Report: Whitefarm Lodge

As part of a series of Enter & View visits to assess local care, we have published our report on Whitefarm Lodge.

What we did

Whitefarm Lodge was selected for review following a number of unsuccessful attempts to engage with the home in an informal capacity between February and August 2015. During this time it was the subject of local media attention regarding a serious safeguarding incident that had occurred in the home in February 2015. The combination of these factors escalated the home for a more immediate and formal enter and view visit.

The report is based on a visit carried out on the 20th of August 2015 by two volunteers and one member of staff from Healthwatch Richmond.

For each Enter & View visit, Healthwatch Richmond uses its statutory powers to visit wards, talk to patients, relatives and staff, and request information, so it can make recommendations for improvement.

Summary

The team was also praised for providing an excellent range of activities at Whiterfarm Lodge, observed alongside very positive interactions between residents and staff.

After our visit the Home management has arranged some changes:

  • Carpets on the top floor to be replaced, deep cleaning to be carried out throughout the building and new products to be used to improve odour.
  • Additional wheelchairs were ordered.
