Recovery & Support Team- Updates

In 2017 we set out to review mental health care for local people. During the summer we published our report on the Recovery & Support Team review we conducted and we continued to seek updates on changes and improvements.

The Recovery & Support Team provides ongoing support for people with complex mental health needs and is run by South West London & St Georges’ Mental Health Trust. Patients and carers told us that the team is working hard to provide a good service but that there were issues related to high staff turnover, difficulties in contacting the call centre and long waits for psychological therapies.

Since the report was published we have met with Trusts’ representatives, including Victoria Hill, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead who told us that the Contact Centre is undergoing major improvements and that a “large medical recruitment campaign” has shown some successes in recruitment to Richmond’s Recovery & Support Team. In addition the trust has made some improvements to the induction of staff following on from our report:

The service manager has developed a new local induction pack for staff, including information and expectations with regards to staff behaviour, communication and adherence to the Trust’s core values

The report was also logged at the Richmond CCG Clinical Governance Meeting in October and will be discussed in full alongside the Trust’s Action Plan. In response to our recommendations, the CCG has established regular concern meetings with the Trust.
