Richmond Royal & Barnes Hospital Redevelopment

South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust are using the proceeds of recent sales of parts of their Barnes Hospital and Richmond Royal Hospital sites to fund new purpose built facilities on those sites.

As part of this work, significant re-development of Barnes Hospital has taken place and services have moved across from Richmond Royal to Barnes Hospital.

During the summer a significant number of people called us with concerns over the move. We arranged two visits to the Barnes site as a result, during which we made recommendations to improve indoor and outdoor spaces as well as communication to patients.

South West London St George’s Mental Health Trust has taken timely actions to provide better signage, artwork and decorations in clinical, assessment and therapeutic areas. Receptions were re-organised and the CAMHS entrance was made more welcoming to children and young people. The outdoor area was also tidied and bike racks were set up.
